Clyde Inducted into Hall of Fame

Clyde played 178 first grade games for the Canberra Raiders between 1988-98 and 36 for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs between 1999-2000. Clyde also played 18 Tests for Australia, 2 Super League Tests, the 1992 World Cup Final and was a member of the 1994 Kangaroo Tour squad. Clyde was vice-captain of Australia's 1991 tour of Papua New Guinea. Clyde played 12 State of Origin's between 1989-94 and played 2 Super League Tri-Series games in 1997.

The Belconnen junior is the only player in the 19-year history of the Clive Churchill Medal to win the award twice for being Man of the Match in the Grand Final in 1989 when the Raiders defeated Balmain and in 1991 when Canberra were toppled by Penrith.

Clyde played one final season with Leeds Rhinos in 2001 and since 2002 has been actively involved with the Bulldogs Football Club. Clyde these days is Football Manager and has taken his high work ethic from on the field to his off the field performances.

His achievements in the game stand Clyde out as one of the finest lock forwards the game has produced. Clyde in 2001 was selected in Canberra's greatest ever side and his position is unlikely to be challenged for many years. Earlier this year Clyde named among the top 25 players for NSW in State of Origin history.

Bulldogs CEO Malcolm Noad commented, "This is a great honour for Brad. He is a legend of the game and was a cornerstone of the Canberra Raiders side that won premierships in 1989, 1990 and 1994.

"The Bulldogs were lucky enough to have Brad finish out his Australian club career at Belmore in 1999 and 2000. The Club continues to benefit from Brad's league experience in his current role as football manager."

Canberra unveiled it's greatest team in 2001 and on www.raiders.com.au it said, "A devastating ball-runner and tireless worker in defence, Brad Clyde raised the bar for back-rowers in the early nineties. Was regarded by many as the best player in the world for a good period even though injuries disrupted his career. Winner of the Clive Churchill award in the 1989 and 1991 Grand Finals."

Clyde's inclusion in the ACT Sport Hall of Fame sees him join an elite group of champions including Heather McKay (squash), Michael O'Connor (rugby union/rugby league), Alex Jesaulenko (AFL), Wally Masur (tennis), Robert De Castella (athletics), David Campese (rugby union) and his former Raiders teammates Mal Meninga, Ricky Stuart and Laurie Daley.

Both the Bulldogs and Raiders official website carried out articles.

Congratulations to Bradley Clyde - one of the greatest back rowers I've ever had the pleasure of watching play.
