Civ will definitely be out for this match, being ruled out for the Panthers for a long while.

Wing will likely be fit for this match as well.

This is really important, to Queenslanders every Origin is independently important. Even if it is a dead rubber either way.

So don't think we all won't be taking this just as seriously. We also want a clean sweep to celebrate Q150.

Very interesting to see who will replace Civoniceva and Hannant. I'm tipping Mat Scott from the Cowboys and maybe David Shillington or Dave Taylor. I also hope Queensland dump that origin impersonator Hunt and pick Willie Tonga on the bench if Hodges and Inglis play which looks likely. Any backline injury then gets covered by Inglis with specialist left centre Tonga coming in.

NSW will also be interesting (as interesting as they can be) with who they come up with. Big media push for Ennis and I agree that they'll move Gidley to five-eighth and play Hayne at fullback. I think they might look for a change in the backrow and wouldn't be surprised to see Waterhouse come in.

I thought Kimmorley and Ennis should have been there from the start, their combination will help the Blose. Cronk has been brought in as 18th man I think, he offers fantastic utility value in possible place of Hunt with a dodgy ankle.

Still a lot of holes to fill for the Maroons.

On the News they were saying this may be the end of Scotty Prince's origin career.

Yea they were saying that on Fox Sports News, citing Prince's age and Cronk's inclusion as 18th man. I doubt think Scott has had his last chance, there is also a 6 and 7 on offer, not just one position.

Harrison keen to be part of history

TITANS backrower Ashley Harrison yesterday declared nothing would stop him running out at Suncorp Stadium next Wednesday after being given the all clear on his injured ribs by Maroons medical staff.

Harrison said the opportunity to wrap up Queensland's historic fourth-straight series victory with a 3-0 whitewash in front of a home crowd would be the biggest game of his career.

"This one is going to be very special," said Harrison, who joined camp Maroon in Brisbane yesterday.

Have your say on the feedback form below

"Especially getting to come home to a home crowd and to be in the position we are in as well.

"I am here now and the ribs are feeling pretty good."

Harrison has been sidelined since damaging rib cartilage in Origin 2 a fortnight ago.

While many players take around four weeks to recover from such an injury, Harrison will complete a gutsy return in just three.

Broncos fullback Karmichael Hunt (ankle) was considered the biggest injury concern alongside Melbourne hooker Cameron Smith (shoulder), but both players were also given the green light yesterday by Queensland team doctor Roy Saunders.

Harrison will be the Gold Coast Titans' sole representative for the final Origin clash.

He has been a revelation for the club since joining the Titans from the Sydney Roosters at the start of 2008.

The 28-year-old said we would love to spend the remainder of his career with the Gold Coast.

He is already contracted through to the end of next season, with the Titans soon to seal an extended deal.

"I would like to secure my future there," said Harrison. "With the things they have put in place at the Titans, they are heading in the right direction and that is something I want to be a part of."

Chance for Williams to make amends

After a dream season in 2008, David Williams knew he would have to come down from the dizzying heights of a premiership with Manly and his Test debut - but he didn't expect the fall to be with such a thud.

"I knew it would happen at some stage but I didn't think the roller-coaster would just crash like that," Williams said of his horror debut for NSW in Origin II.

After twice losing possession running the ball off the Blues' line and kicking early in the tackle count when NSW were trailing by just four points and in a good attacking position, Williams admitted he had been hoping for another chance.

Not that he had seen footage of his gaffes until a team video session at the team's Central Coast hotel on Wednesday night.

"We got to watch the highlights of it last night … well not the highlights, but the points of my game," Williams said yesterday. "It was a real learning curve."

Which is how the Blues' most-maligned player after the historic 24-14 loss at ANZ Stadium on June 24 is approaching Origin III.

"That was the first time I saw it," Williams said. "It was kind of disappointing, in the fact that I just pulled out ones where other options could have been taken, just better options. It's a learning curve, and I'm looking forward to making amends next week.

"It's good to be back in camp. I was pretty anxious and eager to get another chance to get back out there. I was never expecting a spot. I suppose I was more surprised than the first game. They've put it straight back on me to prove their justification for my selection.

"I'll learn from this experience and the mistakes I made. Obviously I made a few big ones, so I'll learn from them and hopefully not do them again."

Of his errors, Williams admits the decision to kick early in the tackle count is the one that haunted him the most.

"That was the most disappointing," he said. "You don't like the dropped balls but … there were a lot of dropped balls on the night. I'm not making excuses. But the kick was the high point of the mistakes, or the errors, the brain snaps, whatever you want to call them."

He even believes that Willie Tonga, the Queensland centre responsible for the two tackles that jolted the ball from his grasp, probably should have got more accolades for his feats.

"I feel sorry for the bugger, he was responsible for two of the best tackles I've seen and that I've felt," Williams said. "But … it is up to me not to drop the ball. The first one maybe but the second - you don't want to do something twice, especially when it leads to a try. I certainly made some mistakes but I just want to make up for them in the next game."

Queensland prop Steve Price isolated from teammates due to virus

Veteran prop Steve Price has come down with a virus and has been isolated from his Queensland State of Origin teammates just days out from the series finale.

Price was kept at the team's hotel at Sanctuary Cove on Sunday afternoon as the players staged an opposed session against the Queensland Residents side at Skilled Park on the Gold Coast.

The Queensland team doctor Roy Saunders said he expected Price would be fully recovered in time to play in Wednesday night's third Origin.

"Pricey has got a flu-like illness and he's feeling pretty flat," said Saunders.

"He's got some aches and pains and a bit of a temperature and we're not going to let him train.

"The players have a day off tomorrow and we anticipate he'll be pretty much recovered by Tuesday."

Saunders said Price would not be tested for swine flu.

Saunders also said the virus was not similar to the one which swept through the Queensland camp on the eve of the second Origin in Sydney late last month.

That virus flattened lock Dallas Johnson and also affected teammate Nate Myles before the game.

The Maroons can ill afford to lose Price with big name props Petero Civoniceva (toe), Ben Hannant (knee) and Myles (suspension) already sidelined for Wednesday's clash.

NSW skipper Kurt Gidley will have just one training session before Origin III

New South Wales skipper Kurt Gidley is set to go into Wednesday night's Origin series finale in Brisbane with just one training session under his belt.

Nursing a rib cartilage complaint that has left him a spectator throughout the Blues' Origin III build-up, Gidley is expected to be rested again when NSW hold their first session in Brisbane on Monday.

Fullback Gidley is still considered an almost certain starter and is expected to take part in the final session on Tuesday, but after the dismal display which followed their injury-disrupted preparations for game two, Gidley's lack of training must be a concern to coach Craig Bellamy.

Bulldogs fullback Luke Patten, who trained with the Blues on Friday and Saturday before flying to Auckland to play in Sunday's NRL win over the Warriors, will rejoin the Blues in Brisbane and again deputise for Gidley at training.

Speaking during the build-up to the Suncorp Stadium clash, when the Blues will attempt to avoid the first series cleansweep since 1995, Gidley said he was desperate to get on the field.

"It's disappointing to have lost the series, but to go 3-0 is not an option," Gidley said.

"Certainly for myself and the rest of the boys it'd be embarrassing and bitterly disappointing if that was to happen.

"It'd be nice to get something out of this series and get a win up there.

"Being captain you certainly feel some responsibility for the team and it'd be nice to go up there and get a win out of this series in front of their home crowd."

Despite the influx of new players, particularly Brett Kimmorley at halfback and Michael Ennis at hooker, Gidley was adamant his role would not change and he would continue to float between fullback and closer to the ruck.

The return of Craig Wing from the hamstring injury which ruled him out from game two gives Bellamy another option at dummy half, but Gidley was confident the plethora of playmakers could co-exist.

"It doesn't change my role at all," Gidley said of the reshaped squad.

"I've enjoyed playing with all the guys in the past two games and certainly most of the new guys, you know most of the guys when you come into these camps and you always get off on the right foot."

Origin football will never be like it used to be... but that half of footy is probably the closest we will ever get. It was fast, it was tough, and it was good to watch. I didn't even notice that there was an error every 2 sets of 6. I think the refereeing was good as well. They let it go as far as it could before it got out of hand. The 2 benefit of the doubt tries were fair enough as well IMO. The 8 point try was also deserved. The only downside to such a great half of football is the scoreline!

Steve
15-07-09, 09:12 PM
I have to disagree about the qld benefit of the doubt try. Can you score by sitting on the ball or stepping on it? Stupid.

But I think Gus has gotten into Dell's stash tonight. No damage done by Thurston with that kick to the head? What was that shiner and bleeding mouth?

Paul
15-07-09, 09:13 PM
Despite all the errors/dropped ball it's been the most entertaining 40 mins of origin in a decade...FINALLY there is some feeling in it like the old days

I can't believe the commentators turned a blind eye to what that dirty little sh*t Thurston did.Anybody who knows me knows that I'm always complaining about him being a nasty little turd in tackles. He always gives players a massive facial in each tackle or throws a cheap shot but that kick at williams was absolutely disgusting and I hope he gets a few weeks holiday for it. Honestly how the morons in the commentary box managed to not "see" it or mention it despite 50 replays clearly showing it until he was penalised was amazing,Kurt Gidley dived straight on him when he did it,Williams gets up with a golf ball sized lump on his head and nobody wonder why? far out a "reflex" action eh Gus? you wanker...too bad it was about 10 minutes late and the ball wasn't near his face

Thurston was taken out a few times after kicking,so was Kimmorley.Boyd was taken out in mid air quite clearly. Both sides have had their fair share of penalty shouts which haven't been given.

If Hodges scored that thing in the corner it would have been the best try ever in origin

I'm gutted,I had Ben Creagh for first try scorer:cry: :fist:

It's in the rules that you can ground the ball with the torso. Until that rule is changed (which it should be), it is a try. Although it appeared that Dallas used his man jewels rather than his torso to ground it.

Yeah, I still call stupid. Out of curiosity, is it a knock on if it bounces off your chest? Because it bounced off his chest, onto the ground, back up and then he grounded the ball with his jublies.

The Waterhouse thing was a bit weird, sure... he ran into the fight but send off? Still trying to see why that should have stopped the try from being allowed, those two had nothing to do with it.

Hodges and the two other tacklers were all punching Gidley in that last tackle and Creagh gets sent for a shove.

I said it from the beginning, we pick Wallace, we lose. And just like 2008, game 3 we lose Wallace and we get a win. Maybe the selectors will pick up on the pattern.

A return to Origin of the past with the Toughness & the Fight, Price just like Webke proved Footy's his go not fighting :nope:

Ya gotta love how a 1 on 1 Blue with White (who should never play origin) winning with a Knock out Right & Waterhouse gets sent off to please the crowd

White got the first two punches for free (the first being a 'king hit') and Price was still standing. Price then got the next 7 hits in a row and White was walking backwards and looking down for the rest of the fight. White wasn't even looking when his haymaker got Price on the cheek.

Waterhouse shouldn't have got sent off, White should have been sent for yet another cheap shot. What a team player he is, Jarryd Hayne lost a try because of it.

He can't use the 'knee in the face' excuse cause it was happening all game and there was nothing in it anyway. He is a dumb liability just like Weyman was, and he'll never pull on the Green and Gold 20x, like ummm.... Webcke and Price?

Some of you may disagree here but,

Blindsiding someone who is in a one on one fight like Waterhouse did, is a dog act. Waterhouse would have worn my beer if I was within spilling distance. I was happy to see him sent. Thustons boot to Williams face also a send off and whilst Im at it White instigated the fight and K.Oed another player... Goodnight to him aswell.

QLD never really looked like winning the match. The fights at the end shows how much the players love their home states. NSW were out of line with laughing at Price though and hi fiving eachother, i think they should be reminded of 4 IN A ROW!

Knee to the head? There was nothing in that at all, if White can't cop that then he's playing the wrong game. Much worse had been going on the entire match....

Well Queensland lost the battle last night but won the war. And that is what counts, that is what is remembered! 4 in a row! 06 07 08 09!!

The Blose were the best team and deserved the win, even the rugby league gods were not smiling because the luck wasn't there, things weren't sticking and we didn't capitalise on our opportunities.

We offered little pressure and no hustle and scramble. In the other games, boys in Maroon were all over every ball and tackle.

It's like we already shut up shop, but truth is we were rocked by injury and we had many walking wounded out there as well.

I knew as soon as they deployed Ennis and Kimmorley, which they should have done in Game 1, we were in for a game. And the dynamic of the team shifted and suddenly they weren't treating it like a Game 3 dead rubber but basically a decider!

But the best thing about it was the crowd. God I was proud of Queenslanders, no one left, they all stayed till the deaf. Even though victory was nearly out of sight, the chants and cheers just escaluated. I was such a proud maroon and that is what sets QLD apart from NSW. NSW fans don't understand.

The match was also a testament to the Origin concept and the rivalry between QLD and NSW. Origin is never dead and never over. The passion out there was awesome and sets up the 2010 series spectacularly. It is such a contrast to other football codes. There is no dead rubber in Origin.

I'm sure QLD will enter the 2010 series at red alert and they won't let their guard down.

Now let's get back to NRL footy!

Gotta love the usual excuse: 'Oh but we won the Series'. Sounds like an excuse to me. At least the Blues aren't making excuses.

Note to all: I don't really give a shizen about S.O.O. I just wanted to stir y'all up.

Brad...... maybe time to change that line mate....... doesnt really have legs coming from a Gold Coast Supporter living in Brisbane.......... Its like me saying to you.... If you dont like the Bronco s then leave Brisbane.;)

Now back to the game...... I m glad its all over and done with. I think the first games QLD were outstanding and shut NSW down. I think the NSW team just didnt have the passion that QLD did. When the last game started I didnt even move to watch it. Didnt want to see another lack luster NSW side get tranced again. But becuase I could still hear it I ended up watching it. It was by far the best SOO I have seen in years. I would have been alright if NSW hadnt won (prefer the result we got but) but my point is at least it would have been a team that you could have stood their proudly and said.... Yeah.... thats my team!

So next year....... I firmly believe that it will finally be NSW.... I think the non existant spark has finally been lit and I would not be surprised if it ends up 3 nil NSW.

So here s to putting the last 4years behind me and looking forward to 2010

What a shame... they struggle to sell out 1 game and we would sell out 2 in 5 minutes flat. Guess I will have to fly down again and miss the experience of being at Lang Park during origin for another year...

Yea, it sucks. But at least we have the Maroons Supporter Bay now! It's like the Queensland Embassy in Sydney. And we can have it for 2 games!

All Queenslanders out there who are interested in attending Origin in NSW next year, please register your details for the Maroons Supporter Bay!

At least with the Blose winning the last game and showing some fight, the 2010 series will sell well at the Sydney games. A cleansweep would have made it a much harder sell.

2010 will be amazing.
