Scott Prince could miss the NRL Grand Final after being hit by a bug which has left him lethargic and without an appetite.

Prince, one of the main reasons why the Tigers are in the Grand Final after a series of dynamic performances at halfback, cancelled a TV appearance on Thursday night and while he participated in training on Thursday afternoon, he was well below par.

The club sent Prince to rest for 24 hours in a bid to ensure the illness doesn't drag on, but he has been kept away from the other players until he is recovered. Tigers coach Tim Sheens said the club was confident he would be alright for Sunday's decider.

"We have got no fear at this stage that it's anything real serious but, as I said, it's one of those things," Sheens said.

Prince's setback is in contrast to winger Pat Richards, who is set to take his place despite suffering ankle ligament damage last week. Richards will spend extensive periods in a hyperbaric chamber in the 48 hours in the lead-up to the decider.

Rookie winger Shannon McDonnell - a veteran of just one game in the NRL - is on standby in case Richards fails a fitness test.
