NRL honours retiring players
30 September 2005
The NRL will continue the tradition of honouring retiring players as part of Sunday’s Telstra Premiership Grand Final celebrations.
Shannon Donato (Panthers), Robbie Kearns (Storm), Stuart Kelly (Broncos), Luke Ricketson (Roosters), Tyran Smith (Raiders) and Jason Stevens (Sharks) have played more than 100 NRL games or have represented one club for 10 years and will be presented to the crowd as part of the pre-match entertainment.
Terry Hill and Matt Adamson are unable to join their retiring counterparts on the day but will also be acknowledged.
“It’s always a bit sad farewelling players who have given us so many great memories over the years but honouring the contribution of retiring players is an important feature of Grand Final day,” NRL Chief Executive Mr David Gallop said today.
“These players have all shaped the game in some way and it’s fitting that their efforts are recognised in front of all fans.
“It’s hard to imagine clubs like the Roosters without Luke Ricketson or the Sharks without Stevo but we wish all the players well in the future and hope they continue to stay involved in Rugby League in some capacity.”
