Hey all

Well after months of us (especially me) saying he loses matches and buckles under pressure... Brett Finch came out last night and with a days notice as well, produce the game of his life to help NSW win the State of Origin Game 1.

He showed us all what he is capable of when he gets it right...and it is good.. :D

A great kicking game, a strong support play and offered plenty for everyone... it was an allround great team support performance.

I am definitely eating humble pie this morning as I thought Finch could never do that... I remember something like it from when he was at Canberra but I never thought he could do it again.. HOW WRONG WAS I... :satan: :satan:

Well credit where credit is due.. Brett Finch showed us all last night what he is capable of, and I will not be doubting his ability in the near future, more performances like that and he could be a real talent in the future... :win: :win:

His performance last night showed the power of State of Origin, it can either make or break you. In Finch's case it made him into a better player, giving us his best performance of recent time; but he needs to back it up each and every week.

good game by him but 1 game doesn't Redeem him of 10 bad one thats why i voted "Yep- But he will need to show more peformances like that" if he can string another 5 or 6 more like that in the next 8 or9 weeks then ill say he has Redeemed himself

Good performance but needs to be backed up on a weekly basis.

Well.....i dont think 1 game determines a player. It will take many more performances like that at club and rep level to change my mind about him.

Plus Finch wasnt the first choice replacement for Gower he was 3rd choice available behind; Johns and Orford. So NSW shouldnt be kissing the ground he walks on ;) The big test for him is in the next couple of weeks, if he even has one bad game for the Roosters than he may not get picked.

Finch no certainty for Origin II
Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 11:50 PM

NSW Origin hero Brett Finch may have earned his team a famous win, but the Sydney Roosters halfback is no certainty to be chosen for the second game of the series.

Finch, who was only drafted into the Blues squad late Tuesday night to replace injured halfback Craig Gower, kicked a matchwinning 38-metre field goal to break the deadlock, as well as scoring a try and having a hand in two others.

But NSW chairman of selectors Bob McCarthy said Finch - who was also behind the unavailable Andrew Johns and Matt Orford in the pecking order - was no certainty for game two at Suncorp Stadium on June 14.

"At the moment you say 'yeah' but we'll have to have a look in another couple of weeks' time," McCarthy said.

"Anything can happen with injuries and suspensions and so on.

"The way he played tonight, he played as good as anyone.

"Some people thought he wasn't up to this arena, but he's played in a couple of grand finals and been in a State of Origin before.

"Injuries play a part - I'd like to say right now that he's in the side but anything can happen."

Asked who would be picked if Finch, Gower and Orford were fit and in form, McCarthy said: "I can't really say, all I can say is we put (Finch) in there and he performed admirably.

"We liked how he played but we'll see how we'll go in the next (club) game."

Johns made it clear he was content with his decision to retire from representative football, while Orford was unable to fill the breach left by Craig Gower's knee injury due to a hip flexor injury of his own.

Finch said he was willing to step aside should any of the trio come back into contention.

"If those guys are back, they come straight back in," Finch said.

"It's their position, I jumped in for them, so if they're fit they come back in."

Finch and Anasta are in the same boat IMO. They couldn't get the Roosters out of trouble on sunday against Parra. It was the same situation then but reversed from wednesday night. 1 night wonders they'll be if they don't start pulling out constant performances.

Reason why Finch hasnt been performing well at the Roosters is that our Forwards have no go-forward.. And the past 2 years his been getting all the critizm(spelling)..
Our Defence however has been great but there is no go-forward.. So hopefully we sign some good forwards..
Oh guess what you Titan fans Fitzgibbon is linked to yous..

Reason why Finch hasn't been performing well at the Roosters is because he is a turnstyle hack who just throws inside balls all day.

Finchy lived up to himself tonight with a shocker. i knew it wouldn't take finch long to remeber that he sucks

Yeah Finch had the chance to come out tonight and show that he can match it with an in form Thurston but he didnt do anything! Him and Anasta were to boring and didnt get any spark going in attack.

I voted he is still a big game choker. Brett " Halfback by default" Finch needs to do a lot more to fully convinvce me...

I knew it..

Bring on Matt Orford, if he is out, Craig Gower, if he is out Brett Kimmorly, if he is out Todd Carney, if he is out Lincoln Withers, if he is out then Ben Cross... Finch can be 45th guy on standbye

i would go "BIAS" for Head as the NSW Half

I think Craig Gower comes in for Finch or Andrew Johns does a Fittler or Langer ;)

I would also be concerned with five-eight, Anasta as he has for the majority of the year offered little. Both were behind a beaten pack so that needs to be remembered. Perhaps the difference there is Lockyer in game one still managed to throw the final pass for two tries where Finch and Anasta were MIA.

Hmm I think NSW will bring in Craig Gower, but Johns won't come back in, he is adamant about that. Orford?

It's going to be either Orford or Gower.. my money is on Gower but as for Orford.. he is a good enough player that a few good games, and he could be in there.. don't forget Kimmorley either... he could get there... and has time to do so.. ;)

As for 5/8th, well the suggestion everywhere in NSW this morning... is that Gasnier may play there and Cooper rejoin the side at number 4... so if that occurs Dragons fans will get to see the future of their clubs formation, well sort of at least... and I like the idea... so I hope Gas gets picked there... :)

Its not all down to finches fault, it was the whole NSW team that didn't show up, unfortunatley, he will probably get the most criticism.

Finch was useless, 1 of his passes hit Mason inn the head, the other hit him in the ass, he had the ball stripped off him inside his own 30 and I don't even remember him finding open space with any of his kicks.

He shoudl be in the jets premier league side.

He's still an immature player IMO. If he's been playing ordinary for the Rooster's what makes them think he'll be any better in origin? there's more pressure on him to perform.

A majority of the NSW supporters after game one said similar stuff to "OMG BRETT FINCH IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD HE IS OUR HERO."

Now they're like "Brett Finch shouldn't even be in the team after last nights performance!"

Look how their attitude to Brett Finch changed over a period of 90 minutes

Gower will be the Blues' halfback for Origin III.

I'd like to see Anasta keep his No. 6, but I have to admit he played shocking on Wednesday. Maybe Presto or Amos Roberts will take his spot?

He played well but i have seen better. He didn't really do that much to stand out. Yeah he won the game with a field goal but what else? he assisted a break from Gasnier and scored but he didn't do the hard yards. Still would choose Orford or Gower if he is in from...
