This is a debate that has gone on for years now...and people seem to have alot of differing views on it.
The question is, Is Andrew Johns better then Wally lewis?

Andrew Johns is the Complete player and he proves that time and time again at the highest level.
Wally Lewis, There never is, was, or ever will be a player like him again. Some people talk about Joey being a legend at SOO level, and no doubt he is, but Wally just.. IS State of Origin.

2 different era's, 2 different ways the game is now played. both players dominate their era. you just can't compare them.

johns cant tackle and is not a tough man, nor is he quick. not exactly complete. that said wally wasnt exactly the greatest kicker either.
Wally Lewis was an emotional player who knew what opposition player to target.
If Wally was to put in on Johns physically...how would Johns respond?

Is it a stupid question, Wally will always beat Joey hands down. The only area that Joey wins is in "hype". People get high expectations when Joey plays; we see a good player but not the best.
Different eras-I voted that you cannot compare

I wasn't old enough when Wally was in his prime to make a fair judgement.

Exactly, hit the nail right on the head! From what I have seen of Wally and remember of him, he is my all-time fav player and in my mind it will take a great player to take that mantle. While I don't rate Joey as 1 of my 'actual' faves, I love watching him play and think he still rates up there as far as class and skill goes with Wally.
It's like comparing Bradman to Border to Steve Waugh though. Or comparing Michael Jordan to Le Bron James. Comparing Jack Nikalus to Tiger Woods. You'll only ever probably stats to compare certain areas etc. Unless they play against each other at the same time at the top of their careers, it's just to hard to call 1 way or the other...

And even if you compare stats, they played in 2 different eras = 2 different styles of play.

And there will not be another Joey Johns, and they're will not be another Tim Smith (if he becomes big)

... and it goes on :p No player can replace another Player. Lewis will always be the man of his time, but in saying that Johns isn't "the man" of our time... you have guys like Lockyer dominating as well,
Lewis like Lachy said IS S.O.O, whereas Johns hasnt ever really "owned" origin like Lewis did, JOhns has shared it with many others.
Ok, that made more sense in my head :p
i'd say the only aspect of their games which is similar is their vision, both lewis and johns we're and are 2 or 3 plays ahead of everyone else that's what made and make's them great.their ability to control matches and certain situations in a match was and is truly remarkable.2 of the best the code will ever see.

I reckon Wally was a great SOO player. With Joey dominating club level. Johns plays good at SOO level but what wally achieved was awesome.
BUt thats not comparing them...just stating what i thought of them. Different era's and that make it hard to pick
To compare wally vs johns is more of a case qld v nsw
