Out of interest flanker, how much of Karmichael Hunt have you seen in 2006?

He is in better form than Matt Bowen for starters and whilst I think Inglis is the form fullback in the competition, he is able to better fill the wing position where we are short at the moment. It makes sense to be honest after such a strong showing in the Test match.

Ditto what DeeGan said :p

Hunt has the ability to link up with Lockyer well and take pressure off him, wich is what we need. He also uses his wingers well, so they will get more involved. His defence is what people question, however he has done quite well this year, in fact I think he's been superb. Missed a couple, but imo, most fullbacks do.

Great seletion imo.

Agree with all of that. :)

Hunt is a good choice.

I briefly overheard on the news that Inglis is in doubt with a dodgy back? Can anyone confirm... terrible news if he couldn't play.

I have not heard that, fingers crossed, losing this kid would be a huge blow (scary to be writing that at all of 19 y.o.)

im guessing this why hunt was picked at FB. i would have had inglis at FB with hunt on the wing.

Just heard on fox sports news that Inglis has stress fractures and is ruled out of origin. Not good, but not the end of the world since he was on the wing.

DeeGan

Not the end of world, though a blow all the same to the team.

What now?

A phone call to Matt Sing would be my preference, I am sure he would answer the call of his state for such an important game given our outside backs are looking in all sorts given Hodges is under an injury cloud as well. I think a specialist winger has to be sort after.

I think Rhys Wesser is a logical choice for Inglis to be honest IF Sing does not get a call. Wesser could make the transition to the wing with little problem plus he has something you cannot coach - speed to burn.

The other option is bringing in Willie Tonga given the selectors apparently have no hesitation in moving career centre Steve Bell to the wing.

The possible line-up;

1. Hunt
2. Sing/Wesser/Bell
3. Bell/Tonga
4. Hodges
5. Tate

I see what you mean about Sing and probly agree but the whole 'SOS calls' is a bit too NSW for me...

Deegan... sorry to say this to you..but Tonga is out for indefinite time according to the Bulldogs... could be as long as 3-5 more weeks, but if you have info that he will be back sooner... I'd love to hear it.. cause an injured Tonga is no good for anyone... :( :(

I reckon Hunt would be excellent on the wing if they want to give Bowen another shot! Wesser would also be good on the wing but if Craig Frawley is fit I would be bringing him in. I reckon with the Big Mal tutelage he's a special, speed and size and an excellent winger to match it with Grother and King

id call Clinton Shifcoske into the Wing spot. as i said in another thread hes been there and done well. only reason he was droped was because it think Lote or Rogers was out for the first game

Ditto. I would love to see Shif get a call! Hes solid, nothing fancy or anything, but would get the job done well. Would be a good support player to have, and good defensively. Plus he can kick, so take the pressure of Thurston.

Pitty NSW wont have decent halves to expose KHunts poor positional play...

It's not so much that Hunt is at fullback as it is that Bowen isn't - I wouldn't mind seeing Hunt on the wing for Origin, but Bowen is the most exciting player in the league, and fullback is his position. He's not even on the bench, the Queensland selectors have lost the plot.

They have gone for someone a little more versatile i think with Berrigan. I would have had Bowen ahead of Hunt at fullback tho.

He's talented that's for sure. His fast, strong and he knows how Lockyer plays which is a plus.

Hunt is in excellent form and the way he ran the ball straight up at full speed in game 2 i don't see why not...

Hmm tell me this... how many games has Preston played in the number 1 compared to Hunt? If Hunt wasn't a better fullback than Preston I would be a little bit worried... :| If you are saying Hunt would be better than Campbell is in the halves, then I simply laugh at you and remind you of the games Karmichael played in the halves this year.

I think that hunt deserves to keep his spot in the team because he has shown consistency where as bowen is in form then out of form.

ROFL! Has Matty had a bad game this season? Has he even had an average game this season? How can he be in form and out of form if he has been on fire every game so far this season? I am loving your bias at the moment :p

I would have had Matty B or even Minnie back there.

But the question should really be "Why did they pick Berro?" He is totally out of form. They could have put Matty B in his place, he can play several positions too, and is in better form.

Then I woke up and noticed we were having the same discussion a year ago.

It'll be interesting to re-visit this thread in a year's time to see if we're still having the same discussion. Hopefully by then Matt Bowen will have stamped himself as the best fullback in the comp.

I don't think many thought Hunt wouldn't handle the job for Australia, but when you compare the stats between him and Bowen, he's been left well behind. I'm looking forward to a blinder from Bowen on Monday night.

Hunt was solid tonight and had an error free game. I was surprised though late in the game when the commentators were saying he was the best on the ground. I thought there were others that deserved the man of the match award more than he did. By the way, the m.o.m. award was decided by the selectors. I wonder if there was any element of trying to justify their selection by giving it to Hunt.
