View Full Version : Hunt
Hunt silenced me tonight. he showed to me he should be QLDs 1st choice fullback for a long time to come. he was so mature in his play and looked to be like it was just another game.

One game has changed your mind on him?
It will take alot more then that to convince me. He played well dont get me wrong but there are better players in form at the moment.

no but he played well enough to retain his spot. bowen couldn't match that and Inglis would be the only one who could match a performance like that IMO. but inglis perfoms well on the wing so leave him there

Earlier this year i said he wouldn't play any rep games this year, i am glad that i was wrong! He played really well. GO QLD!!!

I agree... and I was the one who said Finch was going strong again..... and I will admit I was wrong about that... :D
As for Hunt...he had a good game... he was still under too much flair tonight and did some things that put pressure on his other players... he needs to keep it down and work hard... it won't be so easy in Game 3 and I think he may have a tough time of it... ;)

Inglis peforms well on the wing? Well he scored a couple decent tries on the wing but i wouldnt say he is now a SOO winger. He is much better at fullback IMO. Maybe Hunt can move to Wing then....but with Inglis at wing you are lessening his time with the ball and he needs all the time he can have with ball in hand.

well we dont know how inglis performs at FB at SOO level. he played well on the wing and hunt is going good at FB so why change what works.

Well why was Hunt not chosen at fullback for game 1?
I dont think "it works" after only 1 game. Players are picked on their form at club level, i might be biased here i dont know but Inglis has been the better fullback IMHO.
Hunt did a good job tonight but i feel Inglis is better at the moment(before injury) and Bowen is prolly slightly behing Hunt but not by much.

id agree Inglis has been better at NRL level but hunt is not a winger. inglis has the teanent to play wing better. as far as SOO goes it would be better to play Hunt in his best position because playing hutn on the wing would hurt us more then if Inglis played their
Greg Inglis has been the form fullback of the competition though was not picked ahead of Hunt for two reasons:
1. We needed a winger and if it came down to Inglis and Hunt, Inglis was the better fit.
2. Hunt has a great combination with Lockyer when chiming in to the backline, we saw that at times tonight. Hunt at the back with team mate Brent Tate would have also been a factor.
Karmichael Hunt will be QLD fullback in game three and could sow up the spot for years to come. Greg Inglis will get a chance and will play Origin in game three and for alot of years, though I think he may be a winger or centre in the short term in the best interests of the team. That may all change if we get some specialist wingers (Williams to come back for example) who demand selection - then it will come down to Inglis or Hunt. Enough on the future though.
Those questioning the form of Hunt - I ask you as I did Flanker (who I don't think replied), how many games have you seen Hunt in for Brisbane in 2006? He has been great. The Test he played in showed he is a great talent, tonight confirmed that fact. Hunt is in better form than Bowen and right on the heels of Inglis as the form fullback of the competition. With Inglis out, he assumes the mantle.
"He was still under too much flair tonight"
What the? Did he drop a ball? Did he miss a tackle? He got the job done and returned the ball brilliantly. The first half incident where he was forced over the sideline though threw the ball inside to Bell was not because of Karmichael's "flair", we took the spread option one tackle too late and ran out of room. Admittedly, I think Hunt could of turned the ball inside earlier to Bell.
Focusing on Hunt after a very good performance and great win is the least of my concerns if I am a New South Welshmen ;)

He is a flair full player... I will not back down from that.. you can disagree and that is fine.. but IMO.. he is too full of flair, fullbacks in big games should not be willing to put their side under pressure, he could have done that had the rest not played so well tonight.. :)
So I will stand by my comment, you stand by yours... the final result in years to come will tell us who is right, and if in a few years he is a superstar who no longer does that... like Lockyer, then I'll be the first to admit it.. Till then let me have my opinion and I will let you have yours... ;)

Hunt is only headed in one direction...He is on his way to the top :)....Think he'll be there a while too...:purdy:

I should not too hard...you do have to watch the "lack of flair" in Luke Patten each weekend with the Doggies
Anyone else scratching their head with the above?

You been drinking BDT_311? I have not stated you cannot have an opinion I am simply debating the post(s) which is the purpose of a forum.
I ask again, how many games of Karmichael Hunt have you seen in 2006?

I am too.. and no I have not been, I rarely drink.... so nope.
I just think he is not that good... he is a good player, but I reckon Inglis is better and more of a fullback IMO than Hunt... he has never really impressed me... but then again that just might be me... I just don't fancy him... I would rather see Inglis play at Fullback and I reckon Slater will get it back when he comes back in 2007.

Fair enough, we will leave it there ;) (the drinking remark was tounge in cheek)
Greg Inglis is a great fullback - you won't get too many arguments there. Karmichael Hunt has IMO been just behind Inglis as the form fullback of the competition it is just that Inglis is better physically in most people's opinion to handle the wing as he showed in game one.

Will leave it there on this thread for now... I am not entirely impressed by this though... but Discussion is discussion and it will be heated, so I accept what you have said and we can discuss through other measures.. ;)

Yeah Hunt certainly did a have an impressive game, but yes as stated by Deegan he has been playing very consistently for brisbane throughout this year too (as shown by his test selection) Though I don't want to restart a heated debate I do agree that hunt has alot of flair... but whats wrong with that? As long as he doesn't miss tackles or drop too much ball because of it, wouldn't that flair be a good thing? Eg Provide alot of try scoring opportunites. I just think the flair that karmicheal and benji and co provide is what makes the msuch special players. I do acknowledge that yes if someone focuses in on flair too much without getting the basics right it can dangerous and costly for their team (eg a raw benji marshall debut seaons whilst learning the game) Though I do not believe that if someone like hunt who does all the basics right plus provides great spark from fullback should tone down that spark, just because it's a "big game" Toning down that flair is easy to say but what happens when all the line breaks dry up!?! I think calls for flair to come back into their game would be the next topic!

There there, it wasn't so hard :p
He did have a good game, he run hard, and took pressure of Locky, which clearly showed. He looks dangerous with the ball several times tonight, he was fantastic, def needs to be there game 3.

This kid is a star of the future no doubt. he handled the job so well it looked like he had played 10 orgin games, he looked comfortable and never looked like making a mistake. He runs the ball hard at the defence, his big and fast. Why have bowen?

Hunt proved last night that he should be Queensland's fullback for the long term. And in fact I think he'll almost certainly be Queensland's captain one day.
He'll only get better, and he was inspirational last night, one of Queensland's best.

Hunt is a Lockyer of the future, a natural fullback and playmaker and will definitely take over Lockyers captaincy and maybe even his number 6 jumper when he retires.

No doubt about that. I wonder how much he would be worth?

That's what i thought with the way he handled the kicks and how brilliantly he ran the ball up from kick offs, unlike many fullbacks, he played extremely well and should have been the 1st choice fullback all along...

There was an article in the paper that Broncos were going to offer like 175, 000, but they said he's worth like 250,000, or figures like that.
