Canberra is desperately attempting to stop the exodus from the NRL club by urging Queensland three-quarter Adam Mogg to reconsider his decision to leave. Raiders captain Clinton Schifcofske joined Super 14 rugby franchise Queensland Reds on Thursday, joining playmaker Jason Smith, hooker Simon Woolford and coach Matt Elliott as key men departing the nation's capital next season.
There is also doubt over whether veteran Jason Crocker will continue in 2007, while Mogg recently signed a letter of intent to join new Super League club Les Catalans.
As Mogg has not officially signed a contract with the French team, Canberra officials will put a counter-offer to the 28-year-old centre next week.
"The club has approached me about staying and I said I'd do the right thing and sit down and see what they've got to say," Mogg said.
"Is it a possibility - the fact that I'm sitting down with them means there may be a slim chance (I'll stay).
"To be honest I hadn't given it a lot of thought, I'd previously made my mind up.
"This has all come about purely because players are leaving and they wouldn't want to see another one go, so they have come back to me."
Mogg got a shock call-up for the Queensland State of Origin side for game II on the same day he announced his Catalans deal. The unlikely Maroons hero admitted the lure of playing in another interstate series could be a factor in his decision.
"Definitely, it's something I've dreamed about, to play in a winning series is pretty hard to beat," he said.
"As far as Origin goes, any more Origin football would be a bonus, to continue that dream.
"I've got three years (at Catalans) and that's been done so I'll just sit down and see what (Canberra) have to say."
well luckly it was only a letter of intent and not a contract now canberra just has to show him the money and with the amount of ppl leaving they should have a bit
